Scott and Jessica exchanged vows at the beautiful Baughman Center on the University of Florida campus in Gainesville and held their reception at the Haile Plantation Country Club. It was a joy meeting all their friends and family, and I was thrilled and honored to document this milestone event in their lives.

We got out for a little recreation last weekend to see an international equestrian triathlon.

I saw my first polo match. The riding was very impressive, as there are a lot of quick transitions. And the riders control the horse with only one hand, since the other holds the mallet.

A polo field is 300 yards long, so the horses can really get moving.

I’m fortunate to have such amazing couples drawn to my work. It was an honor to capture the joy and affection of this wonderful pair in engagement portraits. They are also wedding clients, and I can’t wait to photograph their upcoming event in June.

We stepped out the other night to Wild Iris Books / Wild Words Cafe to see a live performance by the local singer,  songwriter, and guitarist Amanda Garrigues (end rhymes with Syracuse) who lays down a great groove. Her songs and melodies are alternatively moving, touching, and inspiring; her lyrics reflect a unique blend of poetry and philosophy; and her voice offers endless delightful surprises in tone, inflection, and phrasing.

Unlike some other “folk” artists, her guitar is right out front, ringing out beautifully crisp, tasteful, and melodic rhythms that serve as a friendly antidote to today’s over-produced, generic music that feels distant and sterile in comparison.

I took on the challenge of a different genre for a day to provide portfolio images for a national model competition. I was working for Lacy who is a full-time university student, swimsuit model, and aspiring country singer being courted by a major recording label in LA. I’m sure that her amazing vocal talent, tenacious work ethic, and intense determination will set Nashville on fire some day soon.

Last week we traveled to the DWF Annual Convention in Tampa and also attended the Imaging USA Expo, an enormous photography trade show. The DWF is an international organization of professional photographers, and this year’s outstanding convention included a lively mix of entertainment and professional education. I enjoyed making new friends with other talented photographers and participating in stimulating workshops and seminars with world-renowned image makers from around the globe.

Many album vendors were there. Below is an album with images by Yervant from a Venice photo shoot. Based in Melbourne, Australia, Yervant Zanazanian is perhaps the preeminent contemporary wedding photographer in the world. I spoke with him briefly, and he was a real down-to-earth and genuinely nice fellow; I respect his talent and contribution to the profession. I wrote the complimentary blurb published on the left page.

I attended a talk by Joe Buissink, a Beverly Hills based photographer. Joe’s images are filled with emotional content; and they consistently make me smile. I seek and strive to capture those type of moments.

I was commissioned for family portraits at the Rafferty holiday gathering. Everybody had a great time. And in the evening, Santa himself even showed up with gifts for the kids.

My bro Cade got his degree, and we helped celebrate. I snapped a few photos just before leaving.

I had lunch with Scott and Jessica at the Swamp Restaurant. These nice folks are two frontier types from out West. They’re getting married in June, and I’m honored to be documenting their event. Congratulations, guys! It’ll be a good time.

Paradise Found

I met Ryan and Sara for their engagement session. They are a lovely and amazing couple to photograph. And it was a true joy to spend the day with them.

I had a consultation recently with Ryan and Sara regarding their upcoming engagement photos. We had a great getting-to-know-you session. And it was a real joy meeting two people who are so much in love, so fun-loving, and so actively involved in health and social issues. We discussed the process and schedule for the upcoming photos; and, after becoming comfortable, I pulled out the camera and snapped a few photos. What a lovely couple!

I was privileged recently to document the Popovich Family Reunion and 90th Birthday of their matriarch, Nancy.
